India on Monday registered 11,451 new coronavirus cases, taking the overall tally of infections in the country to 34,366,987 since the pandemic began in January last year. The number of new cases was 5.51% higher than Sunday’s count of 10,853 cases.

The toll rose to 4,61,057 with 266 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.

The country currently has 1,42,826 active Covid-19 cases, and the number of active cases reduced by 2,019 in the past day. India’s active case load is currently the lowest in 262 days.

Over the last 24 hours, a total of 23,84,096 coronavirus vaccine doses were administered throughout the country. Overall, 1,08,47,23,042 vaccine doses have been administered in the country, as per the Union health ministry’s figures on Monday morning.

More than 15.6 crore unutilised vaccine doses are currently available with states and Union Territories, the health ministry said.

  • The number of vaccines administered in Bihar crossed 7 crore on Sunday, ANI reported. State Health Minister Mangal Pandey said that the state government hopes to reach 8 crore doses by the end of December.
  • Delhi on Sunday recorded zero coronavirus deaths for the 16th consecutive day, according to ANI. The national Capital recorded 47 new Covid-19 cases, and the active case load presently stands at 365.

  • The United States government will reopen the country’s land and air borders to foreign travellers who are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus from Monday, AFP reported. The ban was imposed by former president Donald Trump 20 months ago.
  • Australia will start administering booster of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine from Monday, Reuters reported. Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said that 1,73,000 booster shots have already been administered in old age homes and healthcare workers before Monday’s formal rollout.
  • Japan on Sunday recorded zero coronavirus deaths for the first time since August 2, 2020, Reuters reported. In all, the country has reported more than 18,000 fatalities due to the disease.
  • The coronavirus has infected over 24.98 crore people across the world and caused more than 50.48 lakh deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
