The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered two separate cases under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against students of medical colleges who celebrated the Pakistan cricket team’s victory over India in the T20 World Cup match, reported Kashmir Dot Com, a Srinagar-based news agency.
India had lost to Pakistan by 10 wickets in the match held on Sunday evening in Dubai.
Hostel wardens and management of the Government Medical College in Karan Nagar and the Sher E Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Soura of Srinagar district have also been booked under the anti-terror law, News18 reported.
Kashmir Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar confirmed that they have filed a first information report against the medical students, ANI reported.
The FIR also includes charges under Section 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code.
The police filed the case against the students at the Government Medical College hostel “who were crying and dancing” after Pakistan won the match, according to Kashmir Dot Com.
Unidentified officials said that the accused persons have not yet been identified and the police were conducting an investigation.
Police officials told News18 that they were looking into purported videos of the incident. However, they added that many of the videos that have surfaced are from 2017.

Six detained in Samba district
The police also detained six persons in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district on Tuesday after purported videos emerged of a group celebrating Pakistan’s victory and shouting objectionable slogans, PTI reported.
A first information report has been filed in connection with the case.
The six persons detained by the police are being questioned, Samba Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Sharma said, according to PTI. He added that more people might be called in for questioning.
Kashmiri students allegedly attacked
Following Pakistan’s win, violence was also reported against Kashmiri students.
At the Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology in Punjab’s Sangrur city, Kashmiri students alleged that they were assaulted and their hostel rooms ransacked after the match.
In a video widely shared on social media, a student can be heard saying that they were attacked by “UP waale” (people from Uttar Pradesh) after the match.
“You can take a look at the room...We were watching the match here,” the student says in the video. “UP waale barged in...We are here to study, we too are Indians. Are we not Indians? Then what does [Prime Minister Narendra] Modi say?”
Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police Swapan Sharma had said that the matter was resolved. “Both sides have offered their apologies in front of the police and college authorities today [Monday] morning,” he said.
A senior police official had claimed that the Kashmiri students cheered for Pakistan during the match.
FIR against three Kashmiri students in Agra
The Uttar Pradesh Police have filed a first information report against three Kashmiri students for allegedly shouting pro-Pakistan slogans after Pakistan defeated India in the cricket match. The police filed the FIR on the basis of a complaint by a youth leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The three, Arsheed Yousuf, Inayat Altaf Sheikh and Showkat Ahmed Ganai, were enrolled in the Raja Balwant Singh Engineering College in Agra. The college suspended them on Monday.
College authorities have also accused them of posting statuses on social media favouring Pakistan after the match.
