A member of the coaching staff of Chennai Super Kings testing positive for Covid-19 has raised questions regarding the upcoming matches to be played in New Delhi, PTI reported on Monday.
The initial reports said that three members of the Chennai Super Kings non-playing staff have tested positive for Covid-19, according to ESPNCricinfo. But according to later report in Cricbuzz, only a coach and a member of the service team are confirmed to be positive.
DDCA president Rohan Jaitley told PTI that he hasn’t been informed about any re-scheduling yet.
The results are from the latest round of testing on Sunday and do not include any players that are currently in New Delhi.
The coach’s positive test “is certainly a cause of concern although the CSK players have tested negative. But normally, a lot of people start showing symptoms from the fifth or sixth day. There are discussions whether it is safe to go ahead with the next two matches in Delhi,” a BCCI source told PTI.
The coach was in the dugout during the team’s match against Mumbai Indians in Delhi on Saturday and mingled with players and staff post-match. MI are scheduled to play again on Tuesday, with the league yet to confirm about further rescheduling.
The members have exited the bio-bubble and will now spend ten days in isolation. They will only be allowed to re-enter the bubble after two negative tests that will be conducted after ten days, the report added.
Earlier in the day, two players from Kolkata Knight Riders tested positive for Covid-19 in Ahmedabad leading to KKR’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore being rescheduled. The entire KKR team has gone for a six-day hard quarantine, starting Sunday.
Chennai Super Kings who beat Mumbai Indians on Saturday won’t be in action till Wednesday when they are scheduled to face Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The BCCI or CSK are yet to confirm the development and there is no official word on a probable change to CSK’s scheduled match against RR.
