India’s Divij Sharan and his partner Marcelo Demoliner started their men’s doubles campaign at Wimbledon with a solid win over the reigning French Open champions.
The Indo-Brazilian pair stunned the 13th seeds Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies 7-5, 6-4, 7-5 in the first round.
In one of the most thrilling matches of the day, Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik and Mikhail Kukushkin come back from two sets down to beat India’s Leander Paes and Benoit Paire 4-6, 6-7(1), 6-3, 7-6, 9-7 in the first round.
It was a five-set epic which lasted three hours and 22 minutes with the Indian veteran and his French partner fighting till the last point.
Meanwhile, the all-Indian pair Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Purav Raja lost to the Australian duo of Jordan Thompson and former singles champion Lleyton Hewitt 2-6, 3-6, 2-6 in the men’s doubles first round.
India’s Rohan Bopanna will start his doubles cmapaign on Wednesday with Pablo Cuevas.
The Indians are also in the mixed doubles draw.
