The Indian women’s hockey team went down 1-2 to Japan in the final of the women’s hockey tournament at the Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang on Friday, bagging a first silver medal since 1998.
Sjoerd Marijne’s team lost the chance to seal an automatic qualification berth to Rio. There was good news for India in the sailing department as Varsha Gautam and Shweta Shervegar won a silver medal. India also won two sailing bronze medals.
The men’s Squash team lost their semi-finals and bagged a bronze, but Joshna Chinappa defeated Nicol David as India avenged their final loss to Malaysia from four years ago. The Indian women’s squash team have reached the final and are assured of at least a silver.
Amit Panghal will also face Olympic champion Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan in the final.
