Napoli signed Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina on a season-long loan on Friday.

Ospina will spend the campaign with the Serie A side after falling out of favour at the Emirates Stadium.

The Colombia international, who played at the World Cup earlier this year, is behind Petr Cech and new signing Bernd Leno in Arsenal manager Unai Emery’s pecking order.

An Arsenal statement on their official website read: “We would like to wish David the very best for the season.”

Napoli will have the option to make the deal permanent once the loan expires.

Ospina, 29, joined the Gunners in 2014 from Nice and has made 70 appearances, winning the FA Cup twice.

He headed to Naples on Thursday for a medical, which presented no problems, though the deal is still subject to ratification from the various authorities.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have been looking for a new goalkeeper following an injury to Alex Meret and Ospina could be involved in Napoli’s Serie A opener against Lazio on Saturday.

Ospina started his career at Colombian club Atletico Nacional, having graduated from their youth academy before signing for the first team.
