The dates of the Pro Kabaddi League season six was announced on Monday with the league starting on October 5 and the final taking place on January 5, 2019. The league will continue its existing format and will go on for 13 weeks. In Season 5, the league expanded from eight teams to 12 teams which featured in 138 matches including the final.
The league usually takes place from July to October, however, with the Asian Games set to begin on August 18, the dates were changed to ensure that all players were available. Ajay Thakur, who captained team India during the Kabaddi Masters 2018 Dubai, will lead Team India once again during the Games.
The change of window for the League from the usual July-October cycle has taken place to ensure full availability of top players from India and overseas, given the 2018 Asian Games. This window also allows the teams and fans to capitalise on the opportunities afforded by the festive season. The whole League ecosystem is geared to provide the highest standard Kabaddi experience for fans,” Anupam Goswami, the league Commissioner said on the change.
