France entered their third World Cup final in two decades and once the dust settled on how ruthless Didier Deschamps’s side were to shut down high-flying Belgium on Tuesday, the topic switched to Thierry Henry. The French legend and now assistant manager to Red Devils boss Roberto Martinez’s was a helpless spectator as the compact, organised French defence thwarted every Belgian attack that Eden Hazard and Co could muster.
Even before the mouth-watering semi-final kicked off, Henry and his loyalties made for some hilarious social media banter. After Samuel Umtiti’s goal helped Belgium enter the final, the laughs only grew louder. There was widespread speculation over the former Arsenal and Barcelona man sneaking into the French dressing room wearing their blue jersey and clinking a glass of champagne with Hugo Lloris and Co.
There will be little doubt who Henry will be rooting for in the final. But Twitter was merciless as they played around with the Graphics Interchange Format (Gif) svariety.
