Nine new venues were constructed specifically for the Olympic Games, while seven temporary facilities will be dismantled when it's all over.

The Maracana Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the Rio Olympics, along with some of the big matches of the men's and women's football tournaments.
The Rio Olympic Park is a venue for multiple sports during the Olympics.
The Sambadrome, which hosts the iconic samba dance parade, will also open its doors to the archery events and the marathon. For the Olympics, new stands were constructed, along with undertaking structural work.

A temporary structure located on the famous Copacabana beach, the beach volleyball arena has a centre court, five training courts and two warm-up courts.
The Rio Olympic velodrome will host the track cycling event. After the Games are over, the arena will be used as a training centre for high-performance athletes.
A temporary venue, the Olympic Aquatic Stadium will host the swimming events and the water polo finals. It has two swimming pools – one for the competition and the other for warm-ups.
The 18-hole facility at the Olympic Golf Course ran into some trouble with environmentalists when it was being constructed, but the organisers said it was landscaped as part of an environmental recovery project and will be open to the public after the event.
The picturesque Marina da Gloria will host the sailing events, in Guanabara Bay and out in the Pacific Ocean.
