That’s all from us tonight for the 2024 Diamond League Final. See you later!
And with that, Neeraj Chopra’s 2024 season has come to an end.
Second in the 2024 Diamond League and second at the 2024 Paris Olympics – two very impressive performances despite the 26-year-old struggling with a groin injury.
But the way he reacted after his performances in both Paris and Brussels, Neeraj himself wasn’t impressed.
The Paris 2024 silver medallist continues to carry the flag high for Indian athletics on the world stage. And with surgery on the cards now his season has concluded, a break is perhaps just what is needed for Neeraj to get his groove back, as per his high standards.
Men’s javelin throw: And with that final throw of 87.86m, Anderson Peters of Grenada wins the 2024 Diamond League.
Peters’ final throw in Brussels was Neeraj Chopra’s best throw and like the season gone by, it seems that the Indian’s best is just not good enough once again. Finally an acknowledgement of his efforts as Neeraj completes his night in Brussels with a final throw of 86.46m.
The top three are Peters, Neeraj and Weber whose best throw was his opening attempt at 85.97m.
Men’s javelin throw: Status quo for the top three after five attempts, with Weber fouling his fifth attempt. Neeraj with 83.30m and Peters continues to lead with 84.11m in his fifth attempt. One more to go.
Men’s javelin throw: Nothing special from the top three in the fourth attempt who maintain their positions. An 85.85m for Peters, an 82.04m for Neeraj and Weber throws 81.46m. Neither Peters nor Weber have managed to improve on their opening attempt so far.
Men’s javelin throw: Oh it’s ever so close now! A great throw from Neeraj there in his third attempt and remains in second with a best throw of 87.86, just 0.01m behind Peters who doesn’t improve on his opening attempt of 87.87m. Stone cold from the Indian there who gives no reaction.
The Grenada man still leads from Chopra and Weber after three attempts.
Men’s javelin throw: Except for Roderick Dean, none of the other throwers improve on their first throw attempt. Neeraj throws 83.49m and Peters still leads the field after two attempts.
Men’s javelin throw: After the first throw, Peters leads the way with a throw of 87.87m while Neeraj is in second place with 86.82m and Weber in third with 85.97m. The usual suspects in the top three, as predicted.
Men’s javelin throw: And we’re underway in Brussels with Neeraj Chopra up against a field of six other athletes, including Germany’s Julian Weber and 2024 Paris Olympic bronze medallist Anderson Peters from Grenada.
Chopra is the last to throw in the seven-man field with a season’s best of 89.49.
Neeraj Chopra’s event, the men’s javelin throw, is all set to begin at 11.52 PM IST on Saturday.
Hello and welcome to Scroll’s coverage of the Diamond League Final meet in Brussels!
A day after Avinash Sable finished ninth in men’s 3000m steeplechase, India’s Neeraj Chopra will be in action in the men’s javelin throw on the second day of Diamond League Final in Brussels.
Chopra, who had won the Diamond League title back in 2022, had finished second best to Jakub Vadlejch in the event last season. With the Czech Republic thrower having pulled out of the competition this time around, can the double Olympic medallist from India reclaim his title?
Chopra will face stiff competition from the likes of Grenada’s Anderson Peters and Germany’s Julian Weber in what is a seven-man field in Brussels.
Stay tuned for all the latest updates!
