Diego Mauricio’s brace helped Odisha FC register a 3-1 win over Punjab FC in their Indian Super League match at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
The win helped Odisha FC keep up their challenge for the League Winners Shield by overtaking Mohun Bagan Super Giant to move into second position in the table. Both teams are level on 39 points and trail Mumbai City by five points.
The win also helped the Kerala Blasters become the fifth team to earn the playoff spot this season.
Mauricio scored the opening goal of the match in the 34th minute, only for Punjab FC’s French playmaker Madih Talal to equalize four minutes later.
Isak Vanlalruatfela slotted from close range in the 61st minute to give the hosts the lead again, before Mauricio converted a 68th minute penalty to secure the tie for the hosts.
