7.32 pm: Mayank Agarwal could well be getting a lot of attention in the auction. Form or otherwise, a fast-scoring Indian top-order batter is critical. Apart from him, one imagines there is going to be intense bidding for the three (or four) overseas allrounders too. Great quality in there.
7.28 pm: Have PBKS done the right thing by letting Mayank go? It won’t be easy to get him back, if that’s what they were hoping. But their top order does have a strong look already.
7.23 pm: Apparently as of 7.17 pm IST, Ravindra Jadeja says everything is fine, although quite why #Restart would be used then is anybody’s guess.
Looking ahead to auctions: Star Sports confirming Ben Stokes will be in the auction pool. Sam Curran is set to return to the league, the player of the tournament at the recent World Cup. Both the English allrounders missed 2022 season. Another big name in the pool is set to be Cameron Green.
RR: One of the most reported release in the lead-up to this day has been quashed.
Confirmation of RCB’s list of retained players: Faf Du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik, Harshal Patel, Rajat Paditar, Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, Shahbaz Ahmed, Mohammad Siraj, Anuj Rawat, Akash Deep, Mahipal Lomror, Finn Allen, Suyash Prabhudessai, Karn Sharma, Siddharth Kaul, David Willey
RCB: The purse remaining has been corrected for RCB. We misread that before. Rs 8.75 crore still in their purse.
PBKS: With 16 players retained, and 9 slots to fill with Rs 32.20 crore
SRH: Confirmation that only 12 players have been retained and no captains in the squad. Tom Moody reckons Mayank Agarwal is the obvious choice heading down south.
CSK: Retained 18 players.
Delhi Capitals: Rs 19.45 crore left in their purse and 20 players retained (including the trade of Aman Khan). There is a good chunk of money to add star power.
Rajasthan Royals: Despite plenty of rumours to the contrary, R Ashwin has been retained. 16 players retained, Rs 13.20 crore is purse remaining.
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Correction: Rs 8.75 crore purse remaining. 18 slots retained. That is plenty of room to get one or two big players in. (The purse remaining has been corrected)
Lucknow Super Giants: Rs 23.35 crore purse remaining. 15 players retained. Jason Holder, Manish Pandey among those released.
Gujarat Titans: Purse remaining Rs 19.25 crores. Slots remaining, just 7. Jason Roy perhaps the biggest name released.
Kolkata Knight Riders: This franchise always seems to have a weird relationship with the budgets. Rs 7.05 crores funds remaining, only 14 slots filled up in the squad. No Hales in this squad.
Punjab Kings: Mayank Agarwal’s release is the big news. Rs 32.20 crore is the purse remaining for them. 16 players have been retained.
Chennai Super Kings: Bravo released is probably the biggest news. But for all we know CSK might still look to get him back. Chris Jordan released. Rayudu, Jadeja retained despite all rumours. Purse remaining is Rs 20.45 crore.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: Purse remaining is Rs 42.25 crore. Plenty of rebuilding to do.
Mumbai Indians: A total of 13 players released. Here’s the confirmation.
Mumbai Indians: Purse remaining Rs 20.55 crore, player slots remaining 9.
CSK update: Dwanye Bravo has been released by CSK
PBKS update: Shikhar Dhawan had been announced as the captain already and now there is confirmation that Mayank Agarwal has been released.
SRH update: Kane Williamson has been released.
6.01 pm: IPL auction for 2023 will happen on 23 December in Kochi (Via Star sports)
6.00 pm: The Star Sports show is underway and we should know more soon officially from franchises.

5.52 pm: There has been very little buzz around the CSK team. Despite their horror season last time around, it doesn’t seem like there will be too much rebuilding there.
5.45 pm: One of the biggest talking points before IPL 2022 was SRH’s retentions. They let go of (or couldn’t retain) Rashid Khan, the bridge had been burnt with David Warner and they put their faith in Kane Williamson. By all accounts, that is set to end today.

5.00 pm: Franchises have been, unsurprisingly, busy with their nostalgia posts today. One still thinks a majority of the 10 squads will look similar to last year’s but the ones who missed out on playoffs (by extension not had the best auctions) will perhaps look to rebuild the most.
Some reactions to Pollard’s big announcement:
4.28 pm: The big story of the day (so far) is the retirement of one of the IPL greats.
IPL: Mumbai Indians legend Kieron Pollard announces retirement from league, to be batting coach
4.23 pm: With KKR being busy in trade window, it is perhaps not surprising that there have been a couple of withdrawals from their previous roster.
IPL trades so far (confirmed by the league):
- Australian fast bowler Jason Behrendorff has been traded from Royal Challengers Bangalore to Mumbai Indians
- Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz traded from Gujarat Titans to Kolkata Knight Riders.
- Shardul Thakur has been traded from Delhi Capitals to Kolkata Knight Riders. Other way, emerging all-rounder Aman Khan has been traded to Delhi Capitals from Kolkata Knight Riders.
Hello and welcome to our blog where we will be tracking official updates from franchises (and in some cases players) as the roster for Indian Premier League 2023 takes shape.
With a mega auction and two new teams joining last time around, movement will not be too pronounced this year, one thinks. But the trade window has already been quite busy and there have been some withdrawals announced. We will know more from the teams as the evening goes along.
