Asked to bat first, South Africa finished with 227/3 (Rossouw 100* off 48).
In reply, India were all out for 178 in 18.3 overs.
Player of the match: Rilee Roussouw
Player of the series: Suryakumar Yadav
India head coach Rahul Dravid: “It’s good to get the right results in both the series. In this format, you need a bit of luck in close games and that didn’t happen for us at the Asia Cup... yeah, overall very pleased with the result. We made a decision after the last World Cup to bat more positively, which also means we have to structure our squad accordingly and bat deep. Jasprit Bumrah is obviously a great player and we’ll miss having him at the World Cup but it’s also a great opportunity for some of the others to step up.”
India 178 all out (18.3 overs): Siraj finds Miller, who takes his third catch, as Pretorous gets his third wicket. South Africa get a well deserved win even as India take the series 2-1.
South Africa win by 49 runs
India 175/9 (18 overs): Siraj, somehow, manages to squeeze out a yorker past short-third for four. Rabada finishes with figures of 1/24 from his four overs. India need 53 off 12.
India 168/9 (16.3 overs): OUT! Chahar hit a stunning cover drive for six off the previous ball but he finds the fielder at long-off this time. The right-hander departs for 31 off 17 as Siraj comes to the crease.
Ravi Shastri on air continues to be critical of India’s fielding. Says the team has probably the best batting lineup in this format in the last 5-6 years but the opposite is true for fielding.
India 159/8 (16 overs): Six and four! This time Chahar goes after Ngidi, who seems to be struggling with the humidity and is bowling full-tosses repeatedly. Chahar, meanwhile, is showing his batting prowess again.
India 142/8 (15 overs): Four and six! Chahar goes after Maharaj as the left-arm spinner finishes with figures of 2/34 from his four overs.
India 130/8 (14 overs): Rabada bowls a full toss and Umesh hits it over mid-off for four. Seven runs come from that over.
India 120/8 (12.2 overs): OUT! Third straight over with a wicket for the Proteas. Maharaj gets his second as Ashwin gets caught at long-on and departs for 2 off 4. Umesh has joined Chahar at the crease.
India 114/7 (11.4 overs): OUT! Axar hit a glorious straight drive for four off the previous ball but edges it to QdK this time. South Africa review successfully. Parnell gets his second wicket as the left-hander departs for 9 off 8.
India 108/6 (10.5 overs): OUT! Ngidi bowls it in the slot again and this time it’s Harshal who hits it over long-on for six. But the right-hander attempts another big hit and finds the fielder at long-off this time. Harshal departs for 17 off 12 as Ashwin comes to the crease.
India 95/5 (10 overs): Four runs come from that Pretorius over. India are in all sorts of trouble at the halfway stage of their innings.
India 86/5 (8 overs): OUT! WHAT. A. CATCH! Tristan Stubbs produces a moment of magic in the field as Pretorius gets the wicket of Suryakumar for 8 off 6. Stubbs ran in at pace from the deep and put a dive forward to take the catch inches from the ground. He had taken a fine catch earlier as well to dismiss Pant. The new batter is Harshal.
India 78/4 (7 overs): OUT! Oh dear, DK was looking in fabulous touch and hit Maharaj for sonsecutive sixes but is clean bowled attempting a reverse sweep. He walks back for 46 off 21. The new batter is Axar Patel.
India 64/3 (6 overs): Another big over for India as DK hits Parnell for 6, 4, 6. Superb ball-striking by the right-hander. India are still in this at the end of the powerplay.
India 45/3 (5 overs): OUT! Pant is gone after that blitz! Ngidi gets his man as the left-hander checks his shot and is caught at cover for 27 off 14. The new batter is the in-form Suryakumar Yadav.
India 45/2 (4.5 overs): Huge over for India as Pant hits Ngidi for 4, 6, 4, 6. The left-hander played two gorgeous straight drives there, the first of which was probably the shot of the match so far.
India 25/2 (3 overs): Parnell strays onto the pads and DK clips it over short-fine for four. The right-hander had started his innings with a confident pull for four and is looking good.
India 18/2 (3 overs): DK gets an edge over short-third for four before Pant ends that Rabada over with a powerful square cut for four. India need a lot, lot more of that.
India 4/2 (1.4 overs): OUT! It’s gone from bad to worse for India as Parnell has trapped Iyer LBW for 1 off 4. India lose a review too. The right-hander got himself in an awkward position and the ball didn’t rise as much as he thought it would. Three reds from DRW. The new batter is Dinesh Karthik. This is unusual territory for the senior pro, with so many overs left.
India 2/1 (1 over): What a start by Rabada. Nearly gets Sheryas Iyer caught at slip too.
India 0/1 (0.2 overs): OUT! Oh dear. Length ball, Rohit Sharma pushes at it, the inside edge takes the bails off. Rohit Sharma 0(2) b Kagiso Rabada.
Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant opening the batting.
8.45 pm: Drama in the last over as Miller hits Chahar for a hat-trick of sixes. The first one was out of the stadium and the third was caught by Siraj at the boundary with his foot on the rope. Rossouw returns unbeaten on a fantastic 100 off 48, with Miller not out on 19 off 5. Chahar finishes with figures of 1/48 from his four overs. This ground is small and the pitch is great for batting but this will surely be a challenging chase for India.
South Africa finish with 227/3
SA 207/3 (19.2 overs): OUT! Stubbs ties himself in a knot trying to scoop the ball and ends up finding Ashwin at short-third. Chahar gets his first wicket as Stubbs walks back for 23 off 18. The new batter is David Miller.
SA 207/2 (19.1 overs): CENTURY for Rossouw! He’s taken just 48 balls to get to his first T20I ton. Eight sixes and seven fours in this knock. He’s put SA in a strong position.
SA 203/2 (19 overs): A four each for Rossouw and Stubbs as the former moves to 99. Siraj concedes 11 runs in his last over to finish with figures of 0/44.
SA 192/2 (18 overs): A six and four for Rossouw as Harshal concedes 15 runs in his last over to finish with figures of 0/49. Rossouw has moved on to 93 off 43. It’s been a quality knock from the left-hander.
SA 177/2 (17 overs): A top over by Siraj, just eight runs from it. He nailed his lengths and even conceded just a single off a free hit. India lose their second review too as DRS shows Rossouw was struck outside off.
SA 169/2 (16 overs): Chahar stops before releasing the delivery and gives a warning to Stubbs who had walked well out of the crease at the non-striker’s end. Well, this is sure to reignite that debate again. Rossouw then hits the next ball for six before picking up a four as SA make it another good over.
SA 154/2 (15 overs): Rossouw pulls it in the air and Umesh puts in a valiant effort at the boundary but the ball sails over him for six. The ground is tiny and cruel to bowlers. Harshal concedes nine runs in his third over and has figures of 0/34 now.
SA 140/2 (13.3 overs): Fifty for Rossouw! The left-hander gets to 55 off 27 with a huge six off Axar, who finally gets an over. Rossouw has been quite brilliant so far.
SA 132/2 (13 overs): Dropped! Stubbs chips the ball towards cover and DK puts in a dive but can’t hold on to the catch. That should’ve been taken too. Stubbs then ends the over with a massive six. Umesh has figures of 1/34 from three overs at the moment.
SA 120/2 (12.1 overs): OUT! Shreyas Iyer with a brilliant throw from the deep and Quinton de Kock is run-out for 68 off 43. Iyer had a chance to run out QdK with the first ball of the innings but couldn’t get a direct hit. He gets the job done this time. The new batter is Stubbs.
SA 119/1 (12 overs): India lose a review as Ashwin strikes Rossouw in front and DRS shows the ball missing leg. The off-spinner finishes with figures of 0/35 from his four overs. Umesh is returning to the attack, still no Axar.
SA 114/1 (11 overs): Another big over for the Proteas as de Kock and Rossouw continue to find the middle of the bat. De Kocks hits Harshal for consecutive fours before Roosouw slices one for six as 18 runs come from the over.
South Africa have reached 96/1 at the 10-over mark and are in a strong position to post a big total.
SA 91/1 9.3 (overs): Fifty for de Kock! The left-hander had been struggling to find rhythm but has been on the money from the get-go tonight. A 33-ball half-century for him with four fours and as many sixes.
SA 83/1 (9 overs): A superb shot by de Kock! Ashwin gives it some air and the left-hander reverse sweeps it for six. Dropped! Rossouw gets a life as Siraj drops a catch in the deep and the ball bounces off his hands for six. That could prove to be a costly miss.
SA 68/1 (8 overs): De Kock picks another boundary by driving one over mid-off for four. But a decent over by Harshal to begin his spell, just seven runs from it.
SA 61/1 (7 overs): Another six for Rossouw. This time Siraj bowls it short and the left-hander pounces on it. Rossouw then survives a close run-out chance after a good throw by Iyer from the deep. QdK ends the over with a clever ramp shot for four. Siraj has been expensive so far, with figures of 0/26 from two overs.
SA 48/1 (6 overs): Ashwin tosses one right up and Rossouw hits it for six over long-on. The end of a decent powerplay for the Proteas.
SA 38/1 (5 overs): Umesh does well to pick a wicket off the first ball of the over and follow that up with three dots, but he strays onto the pads with the last two deliveries and Rossouw picks two fours.
SA 30/1 (4.1 overs): OUT! Umesh strikes with his first delivery as Rohit takes a simple catch at mid-wicket. Bavuma’s poor form continues as he walks back for 3 off 8, having got ducks in the first two games of the series. Rossouw is the new batter, he too hasn’t scored a run in the series yet.
SA 30/0 (4 overs): Ashwin joins the attack in the powerplay and bowls a decent over. He manages to get de Kock’s outside edge but the ball runs away for four.
SA 23/0 (3 overs): Shot! Chahar bowls it well outside off but de Kock manages to whack it for six over square leg after walking across. But Chahar does well to concede just three runs in the rest of the over. Bavuma is still clearly struggling for rhythm.
SA 14/0 (2 overs): First six of the match and it comes from de Kock’s bat. Siraj bowls it a bit too straight and the left-hander whips it over deep square-leg for a maximum. He follows that up with another flick for four, this time over short-fine. Siraj is back in India’s T20 side after a while and he’s not off to the best start.
SA 1/0 (1 over): De Kock survives! That could have been a horror start for the Proteas. The left-hander tapped the first ball to Iyer at mid-off and set off for a single but was sent back by Bavuma. Fortunately for him, Iyer couldn’t get the direct hit.
7.00 pm: South Africa captain Temba Bavuma will be under pressure having got ducks in the first two games. He’s at the crease with Quinton de Kock to open the innings. Deepak Chahar has the new ball in hand for India. Here we go!
