The Indian legend bows out of international cricket, lifting the trophy at Lord’s after Indian women’s ODI series win in England for the first time since 1999.

11.15 pm: Alright then, enough about the perfectly normal run out. Let’s close this blog out with the tributes coming in for the legendary Jhulan Goswami. What a career!

11.05 pm: Harmanpreet Kaur signs off from the series that she dominated with the bat, that she controlled as a captain, with a speech that backed Deepti Sharma and showed her respect for Jhulan Goswami. That was one heck of a sign off.

Harmanpreet Kaur: It’s part of the game, we have not done anything new. It shows awareness. I will back my player. (Not verbatim)

Amy Jones: While saying this is within the rules, the English captain says it is up to India how they feel about it. But that is fine, we suppose, she lost the match.

India win series 3-0: Heart goes out for Charlie Dean for sure, she is in tears. But this is a learning opportunity. Don’t make this about spirit of cricket, England.

INDIA WIN THE MATCH!
Deepti Sharma has dismissed Charlie Dean in her followthrough! The English batter is RUN OUT. ENG: 153 all out India win the series 3-0.

Deepti Sharma to bowl.

England 152/9 after 43 overs: This is a stunning knock by Charlie Dean. Another four, lofting one from Hemalatha over mid-off. Damage done. 18 needed off 42 balls.

Harmanpreet persists with Hemalatha.

England 147/9 after 42 overs: That’s a happy English partnership. Gayakwad is also bowled out as Davies plays out the loopy final few deliveries.

Now Gayakwad’s final over.

England 145/9 after 41 overs: Terrific shot down the ground. by Dean to welcome Hemalatha back. Good over for England! They can see the finish line too. 25 off 54 balls.

England need 33 runs. India need one wicket-taking ball. What a finish we have at Lord’s. Harmanpreet goes to Hemalatha. A gamble.

England 137/9 after 40 overs: Three singles off Gayakwad’s over. Davies again does well to play the over out.

England 134/9 after 39 overs: One run from Deepti’s over. Importantly, Dean on strike for the next over. Davies doing a good job here.

England 133/9 after 38 overs: One more bowler done with her quota and it is 4/29 for Thakur at Lord’s. And she gets a hug from Goswami as she heads back to her fielding position.

England needed 37 off 72 balls. Still close.

Renuka comes on.

England 129/9 after 37 overs: Oh no, just as we were celebrating that final over, Goswami gets a chance to finish the match with a catch. And she can’t hold on . Tough as such, and she must have had a million thoughts in her head. And it is a huge over for England. Two fours off Deepti.

WICKET! 35.2: Kate Cross 10(15) b Jhulan Goswami JHULAN GOSWAMI STRIKES IN HER FINAL ODI OVER! We get to see this sight one more time. Kate Cross is bowled and England are 9 down. England 118/9

England 115/8 after 34 overs: Deepti Sharma concedes 3 singls and that is actually perfect.

England 115/8 after 34 overs: Goswami’s 9th over is done. Just six more deliveries left... if that. 9-2-30-1... another maiden over.

England 115/8 after 33 overs: Gayakwad with another 2-run over. Scoring rate still not an issue for England.

England 113/8 after 32 overs: Kate Cross is the new batter in. She can definitely do her bit with Dean. Goswami gets another over (a spell?). Just 2 runs off it.

WICKET! 29.4: Amy Jones 28(50) ct Harleen Deol b Renuka Singh HUGE WICKET! Amy Jones and Harleen Deol, the combo that went viral for a superb catch by the Indian some time back. The Englnd captain timed this superbly but placed it straight to her nemesis (too much?). England 103/8

Drinks. Huddle time.

England 100/7 after 28 overs: A solitary run in the Renuka over but a popular run as the 100 comes up. England are inching closer.

England 99/7 after 27 overs: A four in Vastrakar’s over, followed by a 1-run over Deepti. Harmanpreet rings in the change once again. Renuka comes on. India getting edgy.

England 92/7 after 25 overs: At the theoretical half-way stage, India will still be hoping to close this out. But Jones and Dean are looking well set and Cross is still to come who can do some damage too. India need a wicket here.

England 91/7 after 24 overs: A tidy spell of spin in tandem. Gayakwad and Hemalatha are keeping things quiet but England wont mind this either. No scoring rate pressure as such.

England 85/7 after 21 overs: A good little phase for England this. Dean and Jones are staying busy. The target is still very much reachable if they get closer with these two in the middle. A four in Gayakwad’s over.

England 78/7 after 20 overs: A rank short ball to start off that is put for four. But better finish to the over from Hemalatha.

Meanwhile, Dean and Jones are batting in the middle, so this is apt.

Hemalatha bowled well in Kent. Can she make an impact here too?

England 71/7 after 18 overs: A small milestone for England. Less than 100 needed. And they have their captain and a couple of decent batters remaining.

WICKET! 16.6: Freya Kemp 5(10) ct Harleen Deol b Deepti Sharma And what did we just say? Superb bowing change by Harmanpreet, good tactic by Deepti... bowl outside off, outside edge to backward point. What a day Deepti is having. England 65/7

Deepti Sharma comes on, not a bad bowler to start a new spell with a LHB in the middle

England 61/6 after 16 overs: A good over spoiled by a short of length delivery at the end by Goswami as Jones rocks back and pulls one past midwicket for four.

England 55/6 after 15 overs: Harmanpreet wants to attack. Jhulan Goswami comes back for another (her last?) spell.

WICKET! 14.1: Sophie Ecclestone 0(3) ct Jhulan Goswami b Rajeshwari Gayakwad What a catch by the veteran! Stay low and sharp, takes the ball cleanly as it came to her quickly. RG with another strike and India are on top. England 53/6

England 53/5 after 14 overs: No risks taken by Jones against Renuka who is getting an extended spell (probably the end of it.) 7-1-22-3 at the moment.

WICKET! 12.4: Danielle Wyatt 8(4) b Rajeshwari Gayakwad Well well well. What do we have here? That is a delightful delivery from RG. Turns and squares Wyatt up. She was off to a flier of sorts but the Indian spinner strikes. England 53/5

WICKET! 11.4: Sophia Dunkley 7(12) b Renuka Singh This is game on, alright! What a bowling summer Renuka is having. This is a dream delivery for any pacer. The ball nips back in late and Dunkley, not for the first time, is bowled by Renuka. England 43/4

WICKET! 10.6: Alice Capsey 5(8) ct Harleen Deol b Jhulan Goswami Yes! Jhulan Goswami adds to her wicket tally in her final appearance... the format world record ticks over by one more. All that she deserves. And we get to see the iconic celebration at least one more time. Not the greatest of the thousands of deliveries she has bowled, short and wide outside off. Cut straight to the fielder. England 39/3

England 35/2 after 10 overs: Nice to see Renuka Singh Thakur continue what has been a great summer for her in England as Jhulan Goswami calls time on her career. Feels like a nice narrative arc.

WICKET! 9.3: Tammy Beaumont 8(21) b Renuka Singh Had to be Renuka! India wasted a review but soon after, the bowler gets her second of the day. Beautiful angle, Beaumont plays inside the line. England 34/2

England 33/1 after 9 overs: Tammy Beaumont was getting bogged down but manages a release shot for four in Goswami’s otherwise tight over.

WICKET! 7.4: Emma Lamb 21(29) st Yastika Bhatia b Renuka Singh The pressure was building and it pays. Full from the Indian pacer and Yastika does well standing up to the stumps. England 27/1

England 26/0 after 7 overs: Treatment needed for Lamb after an attempt to scoop Goswami ends up injuring her hand. But after a break, she picks herself up and slams a four down the ground.

England 21/0 after 6 overs: This is a good little squeeze from India early on but England won’t really mind that. They are avoiding the early damage that Cross caused for the hosts.

England 19/0 after 5 overs: Typically tidy from Goswami. Good to see India attack with a catching short square leg position for Beaumont who has a tendency to jam pat and bad together. India need wickets, and they are searching for it.

England 17/0 after 4 overs: The short of length is waiting to be put away, Lamb pounces on another one in Renuka’s over. And then not the best of fielding efforts by Shafali at deep point for second boundary of the over. All Lamb at the moment. Beaumont taking her time in her 100th ODI.

England 8/0 after 3 overs: The short ball is easy to put away on this pitch. Lamb puts one away in Goswami’s over for four.

England 2/0 after 2 overs: Tidy start by Renuka Thakur too, who will want to finish this memorable English summer on a high.

England 0/0 after 1 over: Jhulan Goswami starts with a maiden over. Metronomic as ever.

Jhulan Goswami gets another lovely moment at Lord’s

End of India’s innings – 169 all out (45.4 overs): Deepti Sharma is unbeaten on 68* off 106 balls. A fine recovery effort by her, but she didn’t receive support from those around her. The likes of Hemalatha and Vastrakar needed to do more.

WICKET! 45.4: Rajeshwari Gayakwad 0(10) lbw Sophie Ecclestone A bit too good, Ecclestone for Gayakwad. Around the wicket, darted in and LBW. Review doesn’t help. Deepti Sharma could have farmed the strike more perhaps? But a fine effort from her. India 169 all out

India 166/9 after 45 overs: That is another ideal over for India. A four for Deepti Sharma, lovely cut off Dean, and then a single off the last ball.

India 161/9 after 44 overs: That’s a good over for India all said and done. A two early on for Deepti, Gayakwad even manages a paddle sweep for three (leg byes) and Deepti retains strike.

India 154/9 after 43 overs: That’s a memorable day for Kate Cross. No five-for but a superb 4/26 in her 10 overs.

Now Deepti takes a single off the first ball in Cross’ over and there is a big chance for a Lord’s five-for.

India 153/9 after 42 overs: That is a risky decision to take a single early in the over from Deepti (She did call for two but couldn’t take it). Gayakwad survives though.

WICKET! 41.2: Renuka Singh 0(3) ct Sophia Dunkley b Freya Kemp On cue a rash shot from Renuka and it is a soft dismissal. India 151/9

India 150/8 after 41 overs: The depth has been exhausted, now it is all down to Deepti Sharma to play this innings out. Renuka and Rajeshwari not likely to hang around much.

WICKET! 39.5: Jhulan Goswami 0(1) b Freya Kemp A 17-year-old up and coming seam bowling allrounder Freya Kemp dismisses the 39-year-old Jhulan Goswami for a first-ball duck, bowled through the gate. Hopefully, Jhulu di can do damage with ball in hand later on.. India 149/8

WICKET! 38.6: Pooja Vastrakar 22(38) lbw Charlie Dean ah just when she was moving throught the gears! Vastrakar had just hit another four but seemingly beaten for pace by an arm ball from Dean. India 148/7

India 141/6 after 38 overs: The gear has been shifted by Pooja too who is targetting the straight boundary with good success.

Half century for Deepti Sharma: A patient innings, one that India needed. The camera pans to one of the many Indian fans at the venue who takes his hat off in appreciation, and it is a fitting image as things stand. A gritty knock but India need her to bat through.

India 128/6 after 35 overs: That is a good over for India! A four each for Deepti and Pooja as Dean comes back into the attack.

India 119/6 after 34 overs: Struggle to score runs at the moment but India have arrested a collapse here at least for now.

India 111/6 after 32 overs: Score corrected.

India 112/6 after 32 overs: This is now an exercise in batting out as many overs as possible. Deepti is holding one end up, Pooja is playing an uncharacteristic innings.

India 110/6 after 30 overs: Time for a drinks break. And a chance to finally see what transpired at the toss.

WICKET! 28.3: D Hemalatha 2(17) ct Charlie Dean b Sophie Ecclestone It’s not been the best of comebacks to international cricket for Hemalatha, she hasn’t made the most of her chances. Never got going here again, and finds Dean at midwicket trying to release the pressure. India 108/6

India 101/5 after 26 overs: That is a completely incongruous over to what Kate Cross has been dishing out today. An outside from Deepti, should have been a slip in place. And then a wide that goes for four. 13 runs from it. More than what she had conceded from her previous 7.

A wonderful tribute by Shikha Pandey on Twitter for Jhulan Goswami:

The first memory I have of Jhulu di is of a super nice, welcoming and ever smiling India cricketer under whose captaincy I played my first match of Challenger trophy tournament at Motera in 2010.

Every time I met her, I would ask her heaps of questions and she would try answering all of them, always. I hardly found it easy bowling along side her because everyone wanted me to be her. Such are the standards she set for the bowlers coming into the side.

Her work ethics were second to none and they inspired me to get better everyday. I’ve learnt so much from her on the cricket field but what I shall always treasure is knowing the person she was off the field.

I love how fussy we’ve always been about having near perfect run-ups in our practice sessions and our obsession with our bowling gear. It’s been a while since we have had our chats over chai and I would probably miss them the most.

Happy retirement Jhulu di and all the best for your second inning. #ThankYouJhuluDi

India 88/5 after 25 overs: The English must sense this innings is up for the kill now. Ecclestone and Cross in tandem. Hemalatha into bat. India do bat deep.

India 87/5 after 24 overs: That’s a wicket maiden for Cross. What a day she is having. One wicket away from a Lord’s five-for.

WICKET! 23.2: Smriti Mandhana 50(79) b Kate Cross Oh dear! Smriti Mandhana shapes up to pull but the ball hits the toe of the bat and then goes onto hit the stumps. She can’t believe it, neither can Cross or England. Bizarre dismissal of a well-set batter. India 87/5

HALF CENTURY! With wickets falling around her, Smriti Mandhana has kept the scoreboard ticking and has reached a fighting fifty.

India 84/4 after 22 overs: The moment Cross comes back into the attack there seems to be a bite in England’s bowling. Just a 1-run over.

India 82/4 after 20 overs: This is a nice little recovery for India but nearly ended in Lamb’s over. A massive mix-up in the middle with Mandhana nearly joining Deepti at the non-striker’s end but she makes it back because of a fumble. Both these have their issues running between the wicket.

India 74/4 after 18 overs: Terrific late cut by Deepti, using the pace from Dean to get another four

We will reflect on Jhulan Goswami’s career through this blog... here’s what she had to say on Friday in response to a question by Scroll.in on what she is most proud of looking back at the career.

India 66/4 after 16 overs: There is a release of pressure from Deepti, a lofted sweep just over midwicket off Ecclestone’s bowling. Mandhana moves on to 40 meanwhile.

India 53/4 after 14 overs: Tidy over from Dean and now she will have Ecclestone from the other end to build more pressure.

India 53/4 after 13 overs: Why of course Mandhana was going to try and put some pressure back on England (and their young pacer). After a tidy over by Dean, the opener takes on Kemp again. An uppish cut followed by a superb pull for four. Time for drinks.

India 39/4 after 11 overs: What a chance for Kemp to bounce back from her tough day in Kent. She comes on to bowl with her side well on top. Nearly gets Mandhana out in that over, as an uppish cut evades Beaumont and goes for four.

India 32/4 after 10 overs: What a start to this match for England. Definitely something on the pitch but they have just bowled exceptionally good areas. Even Mandhana has played & missed a few but she is still there. Trying to play a patient knock. (For Jhulu di, she is presumably telling herself!)

India 29/4 after 9 overs: It’s a procession for India and now Mandhana is in the middle with Deepti Sharma. India in need of some massive rebuilding here.

WICKET! 8.4: Harleen Deol 3(5) lbw Freya Davies What a review that is! Late call from Amy Jones to go upstairs. Harleen Deol clearly let the ball go from pad to bat and it is plumb now. India 29/4

India 22/3 after 8 overs: Kate Cross has figures of 4-1-8-3. Madness!

WICKET! 7.2: Harmanpreet Kaur 4(9) lbw Kate Cross WOW! Cross is crossing out India’s top order out, one by one. Late movement again, the ball comes into Harmanpreet. The planted front foot has been an issue for her. She reviews it, umpire’s call for clipping leg stump. India 17/3

India 17/2 after 6 overs: The (internet-anointed) twins are at each other! Cross puts down a C&B chance offered by Harmanpreet. Laughs all around, too after that. Earlier in the over, Cross bowled a peach to Mandhana. Was a no ball but missed the stump by a whisker. What a spell this is

ICYMI: (Which you would have, if you are in India)

India 15/2 after 5 overs: There is still movement on offer. Good over from Davies but the Indian batters manage to get the scoreboard ticking a bit.

Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, both of whom have spoken in detail about wanting to deliver this series for Jhulu di, have to now put on some runs for Jhulu di to defend later on.

WICKET! 3.1: Yastika Bhatia 0(2) b Kate Cross Oh fantastic from Cross! Full, late movement back into the left-hander and no answer from Yastika. What a start for England. India 10/2

WICKET! Over 1.5: Shafali Verma 0(5) b Kate Cross Oh dear. Not long after they showed replay of the dismissal in Kent, Cross gets Shafali with a similar delivery, bowled through the gates once again. The reaction of the Indian opener was tough to watch. Wicket maiden, it is. India 2/1

India 2/0 after 1 over: Mandhana starts off with a couple past point off Davies. Followed by five dot balls.

Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma in the middle, we are underway at Lord’s.

3.20 pm: Jhulan Goswami came out for the toss at Lord’s. But if you are in India, you would not have been able to watch any of it.

India XI: Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Yastika Bhatia (wk), Jhulan Goswami, Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Dayalan Hemalatha, Renuka Singh.

TOSS: England won the toss and elected to field. Jhulan Goswami’s bowling will be primetime viewing in India.

03.00 pm: Hello all and welcome to our live coverage of retirement weekend in London... this time, we bid farewell to Jhulan Goswami, one of India’s greatest ever cricketers who is set for a Lord’s farewell.

A few years back, ahead of the 2017 World Cup, we had done an article on the legacies of Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami... that both of them went on to play five more years of cricket at a pretty high level in itself is an amazing feat. And today, not long after Mithali Raj announced her retirement earlier this year, it is Jhulan Goswami’s turn to bid adieu to international cricket.

“I have seen their careers unfold in front of my eyes and it is great to see that their pride of playing for the country has remained the same over all these years,” India legend Sudha Shah had told Scroll.in five years back. Listening to Goswami speak yesterday, that is the overwhelming feeling we have today as well.
