SRH were interested and so were Punjab. Fine pace bowling allround talent who had a big impact of the U19 World Cup final. MI put up the paddle too. Bit of bidding war for the youngster. Punjab came in later again and got him.

Goes beyond Rs 2 crore with DC and RR battling it out... past Rs 3 crore. The paddles are now going up rather slowly. DC already have The Fizz and Khaleel... and they now have Chetan too! Left is right for them it would seem. They are chuffed with it too.

Valuable utility buy and an experienced option in case they need one. And at a good price too.

Hot property at one point but the performances haven’t quite matched up. Big hitter on his day and can bowl a few handy overs too. Bidding started off slowly but Punjab wanted him. CSK came in just as bidding seemed to be coming to an end and they got him in the end. A good chance for Duba to learn from the best in the business.

Marco Jansen - sold to SRH for Rs 4.2 crore

MI and Rajasthan in this. The tall South African pacer is a top prospect and will only get better in the next couple of years. SRH came in later and sold a march over the others.

Odean Smith - sold to Punjab for Rs 6 crore

A good showing in the recent India vs West Indies series saw Punjab and Lucknow jump into the fray. SRH came into the equation a little later. Solid bowler and he has really worked on his batting. Likes hitting the big sixes. Royals coming into the picture after the bidding has crossed Rs 4 crore. Punjab stayed with him throughout and finally secured his services.

Chris Jordan - unsold

Unsold for now. But some team might want to pick him up later.

Vijay Shankar - sold to Gujarat for Rs 1.4 crore

Between Gujarat and CSK. The allrounder has had fitness issues but is a strong utility player. Also a former India no 4. Gujarat win and they have a solid Indian pace bowling allround option.

Jayant Yadav - sold to Gujarat for Rs 1.7 crore

He came in and did a job for MI and is a consistent no-nonsense performer. Bowls off-spin and can get some important runs lower down the order. Good, solid buy for Gujarat.

The 24-year-old West Indian was with CSK last season and he can go big when the mood takes him. An interesting buy for Gujarat.

The England allrounder brings good explosive power to the table and teams always want that. He is an opener and an occasional spin bowler, capable of bowling both right-arm leg and off spin. And that is his USP. KKR and Punjab in the mix for his services. Gujarat entered the fray at Rs 7 crore. SRH came in even later. Madness! Punjab won out in the end.

Punjab started things off on Day 2 but SRH, who need good players desperately, also jumped in. MI came in late at Rs 2.4 crore. But SRH kept at it. He isn’t in the best form but can get things right.

He was the match of the series and helped Australia to win the T20 World Cup. He has captained his previous team to the IPL win. He will work out well with Prithvi Shaw and with Ricky Ponting.”

“If you see how expensive all the fast bowlers were going, we realised that the original plans and numbers we had will not work out for us. Shardul is an improving character. We thought he would add balance to our squad. Hence, we went aggressively for him. Plus, we have been great admirers of Shardul Thakur’s skills and his progression. He can bowl with the new ball and in the death overs, and can also bat. We could not be more excited about having him,” Jindal added, while speaking about his team’s expensive buy of the auction so far.
