India’s mixed doubles pair in table tennis, G Sathiyan and Manika Batra achieved their career-best ranking of 15 in the updated rankings posted by the International Table Tennis Federation.
Sathiyan and Batra had reached the quarter-finals at the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals in Houston, earlier this week, a feat that earned them 350 ranking points.
The India pair jumped 11 places to enter the top fifteen in the world.
Also making a jump was Manika Batra and Archana Girish Kamath in women’s doubles. They too had reached the quarterfinals in Houston and came within one win of an assured medal and the run has seen them move four places up to the 10th spot.
The Indian pair of Sathiyan and Batra had won the title at the WTT Contenders in Budapest earlier this year and had reached the semi-finals of the WTT Contenders in Tunis. On the other hand, Batra and Kamath had won the doubles title at WTT Contenders, Lasko.
“Historic feat as we become the first ever Indian pair to break into the world top 15 in mixed doubles in the latest ITTF world ranking list,” wrote Sathiyan in his tweet.
In singles, Achanta Sharath Kamal remains the highest-ranked Indian at No 32, followed by Sathiyan at No 38 in the world. Manika Batra holds a singles rank of No 56. Sathiyan and Sharath moved three places up to No 23 in the doubles ranking.
