11.57 pm: And so. New Zealand pulled off a Kiwi heist to upstage England by five wickets in the first semifinal of the T20 World Cup thanks to Neesham and Mitchell’s heroics.

WICKET! NZ 147/5 after 18 overs: Neesham can’t keep it down, Morgan takes the catch and celebrates, Rashid gets the wicket and doesn’t celebrate much because it was a massive over. Neesham made 27 off 11 balls. New Zealand need 20 runs in 12 balls... only thing to say at the moment.

HALF CENTURY! He’s been struggling all night but in the business end, Mitchell is playing some massive shots! This is short ball from Rashid, slammed over long on! NZ CAN SENSE A WIN.

New Zealand 133/4 after 17 overs: WHAT AN OVER! 23 from Jordan.

Boundary line catch drama KLAXON!!! For a second it looked like Bairstow had pulled off a brilliant catch. But his knee hit the ropes. Soft signal was given out, and before that England were appealing for a run out too! (Bairstow knew it wasn’t caught but that was the energy of the moment).

6 and 4 in the first three leg balls, a couple of wides... pressure on Jordan and England!

57 off 24 balls. Neesham, who knows a thing or two about playing crucial knocks lower down the order, on strike as Jordan comes on.

New Zealand 110/4 after 16 overs: What an over from Livingstone. What a spell from Livingstone. (Swear I typed this before Nasser Hussain said on air!) Mitchell couldn’t read him with a magnifying glass if he tried.

WICKET! New Zealand 107/4 after 15.1 overs: Livingstone, Livingstone! This is absolutely brilliant. Phillips is caught at long off.

New Zealand 107/3 after 15 overs: another good over for NZ but perhaps a bit too optimistic to say they are only marginally behind?

Win or lose, it really is an absolute delight watching this England white-ball team in action. Tactically, just on another level it would seem.

New Zealand 97/3 after 14 overs: 70 from 36 balls. Nearly 2 a ball from here. England firmly in control. Glenn Phillips joins Mitchell.

WICKET! New Zealand 95/3 after 13.4 overs: This is delightful from Livingstone. Seems like he is going with the wrist spin against Conway and makes him think it is coming in but it is the one that slides through and Conway is stumped.

New Zealand 92/2 after 13 overs: It looked like Jordan had done so well to save four-five runs there! But the ball just touched the boundary cushion. Mitchell with a much-needed six in Rashid’s over that went for 12. Still in this!

NZ need 87 from 48 balls and keeping things feasible.

New Zealand 80/2 after 12 overs: Conway, in response to tweet below, picks up one of those change-ups and nails a cover drive! Superb batting, he seems in good touch.

New Zealand 73/2 after 11 overs: One of the shots of the night from Conway! Down the track and cuts hard at a short ball from Wood. There was also a rare England no ball in that over. Free hit not costly. Mitchell started that over with a four. Momentum of sorts for NZ.

Wood starts off after the break. NZ must have passed on the message on to Mitchell... “go big, lad” or some sort.

NZ need 109 off the last 10 overs. Neesham must turn into peak Stokes for them.

New Zealand 58/2 after 10 overs: Something for NZ to build on at the halfway stage! Conway goes after Livingstone, connects with one at least even if the timing is really still not there.

New Zealand 50/2 after 9 overs: Going nowhere NZ at the moment. Rashid with another top over.

New Zealand 45/2 after 8 overs: Simon Doull reckons Mitchell must go after the spinners here. At this point either must... NZ don’t have the firepower, on paper, to make up for required rate at the end. Four singles in that Rashid over.

New Zealand 41/2 after 7 overs: Five runs in Wood’s first over and a half chance that evaded the fielders. NZ need a move on soon.

New Zealand 36/2 after 6 overs: A passable Powerplay at the best of times. In a semi-final NZ would have ideally liked more but they’ll have to make do for now. Conway and Mitchell are starting to look comfortable in the middle.

New Zealand 26/2 after 5 overs: Not the kind of Powerplay NZ would have wanted but they have one over to change that. One more over to put a little more pressure on the England bowlers too.

New Zealand 18/2 after 4 overs: A four off the last ball for Conway. NZ now need a partnership to settle the nerves in the dugout and also give themselves the best chance.

WICKET! New Zealand 13/2 after 2.4 overs: WICKET! Woakes again and this time he sends back Williamson (5 off 11). This hurts the Kiwis. The NZ skipper tried to lift it over short fine leg but it went nowhere. Rashid Khan took an easy catch.

New Zealand 13/1 after 2 overs: NZ need some momentum in the Powerplay overs. Williamson and Mitchell are key for this team.

WICKET! New Zealand 4/1 after 0.3 overs: They lose Guptill early and that is a massive blow given the form he has been in. Leading edge. Not the start NZ wanted. Just the start England wanted. Caught Ali, bowled Woakes.

Target 167: Guptill and Mitchell have done their bit for NZ in the World Cup, they need a good start here.

England 166/4 in 20 overs: Overall, maybe a bit par or below. But from losing Buttler early, this is a great score for England I think. Might depend on the amount of dew, but NZ’s batting haven’t quite been their strong suit. An interesting chase coming up.

DROPPED! Glenn Phillips, of all people, drops a catch off the last ball and Morgan scampers back for two. England finish on 166/4, instead of 164/5. Will that matter in the end?

Boult with a misfield for two that keeps Morgan on strike for the last ball and Sammy wonders if that was deliberate! Thinking like a captain still perhaps?

Half century! A 36-ball 50 for Moeen Ali. He has stepped up for England big time in a big match. Man is enjoying batting in the UAE in big matches especially eh?

WICKET! England 156/4 after 19.2 overs: Livingstone is out caught at long off, and that could shave a few runs off NZ’s target.

Neesham in the final over and England will be eyeing up the boundaries (could result in a couple of wickets too)

England 155/3 after 19 overs: Boult perhaps the best ball of the day in his first over and could have also had Bairstow played on but he finishes with 4-0-40-0. Not his day. Livingstone with a four in that over.

England 146/3 after 18 overs: The 18th over starts and ends with a six as Milne concedes 16! England finishing strongly... one each for Moeen and Livingstone.

Santner will finish with just one over because of the LHBS in England’s batting lineup. Too much reliance on matchups?

Milne comes on and Moeen smacks the first ball for six.

England 130/3 after 17 overs: As expected, Moeen goes after Sodhi early in the over, nailing a shot over midwicket for six. But the NZ spinner comes back well with a couple of dot balls and a good finish to the over. 4-0-32-1 with the big wicket of Buttler for Sodhi.

Sodhi on to bowl his 4th. Livingstone on strike. Maybe Moeen will go big this over.

WICKET! England 116/3 after 15.2 overs: SIX AND OUT! Southee comes on, Malan smacks one over midwicket for six and goes for a similar shot next up. Caught behind this time. 41 off 30 balls from Malan, a solid recovery innings.

England 110/2 after 15 overs: It’s not Boult’s day so far. A completely mishit shot off a knuckle ball falls in no-man’s land from Moeen and then he scores a four off one on his pads later in the over.

England 100/2 after 14 overs: A chance for Milne on his followthrough...a tough, tough chance though. Powerfully struck by Malan.

England 94/2 after 13 overs: Moeen and Malan are making things tough for NZ after a great start. Sodhi is brought on despite the two LHBS and he tries to keep things leg side and turn away. Moeen finishes the over with four.

England 85/2 after 12 overs: OH WOW! Only the brilliance of Phillips across the field prevents another cover drive four for Malan. Saved a run there. Milne with a 7-run over.

England 78/2 after 11 overs: Two overs in the Phillips over for Malan, both deliciously driven by Malan.

Dawid Malan is putting on a cover driving masterclass. Four fours now with similar shots.

Glenn Phillips who rank like a 100m sprinter across the field to try and cut that four off the last ball in the previous over comes on to bowl with two LHBs in the middle. Part-time off-spin. Wonder if Williamson would have bowled if he was fully fit.

England 67/2 after 10 overs: DROPPED! Conway has taken some really good catches this tournament with and without the gloves. But he puts that one down when he would have expected to take it, an outside edge from Malan off Neesham is grassed. Malan finishes the over with a superb cover drive for four.

England 60/2 after 9 overs: Malan will have to do more against the Kiwi spinners with the ball turning into him. A lovely four past cover to finish that Sodhi over. And with LHBs in the middle, NZ turn to Neesham.

WICKET! England 53/2 after 8.1 overs: Huge, huge wicket! Potentially a huge moment in the match. Jos Buttler is out LBW trying to reverse sweep Ish Sodhi. Review shows three reds and Kumar Dharmasena is right.

England 53/1 after 8 overs: A reverse sweep from Buttler to Santner. He loves that shot. Four.

WICKET! England 37/1 after 5.1 overs: Adam strikes first! Kane Williamson with a sharp catch and a scratchy innings from Jonny Bairstow comes to an end. Milne has the wicket and he runs to his captain. Just a quick replay to check the catch. (Was the NZ captain behind the inner circle though? That’s not checked).

England 37/0 after 5 overs: Southee gets three overs on the trot. A boundary for Bairstow down the ground. Maybe that will help him get going.

England 29/0 after 4 overs: WELL! What’s an England-New Zealand match without overthrow runs. Williamson with a direct hit, B&B get a sneaky extra run. Two fours earlier in the over as Buttler shows what good touch he is in. And then there were five wides too as one took off from the middle of the pitch from Boult. Sweet 16 from that over for England.

England 13/0 after 3 overs: Bairstow, promoted to open, just struggling a bit to put bat on ball at the moment. Southee finishes the over well this time.

England 12/0 after 2 overs: Another great over finishes with a four for England. Have mercy on bowlers! Boult beats Bairstow with a peach and later on gets the inside edge that somehow evades the stump and goes for four fine.

England 6/0 after 1 over: Buttler spoils what was turning into a super first over from Southee. Perhaps going for that magic ball and strays onto the pad... flicked away for four.

“Let’s hope we get an ounce of the drama we witnessed in Lord’s two years ago,” begins former England captain Atherton on commentary. That will be enough for a cracker! Bairstow is opening with Buttler. Here we go!

A moment’s silence of Mohan Singh before we have the national anthems.

Abu Dhabi cricket’s long-serving pitch curator passed away on Sunday but the Twenty20 World Cup match between New Zealand and Afghanistan went ahead as planned. Mohan Singh died on Sunday morning after being in charge of the Abu Dhabi pitches for 15 years.

New Zealand’s strength is their bowling and they’d be delighted to be doing that first in hopes of keeping England to a manageable score. The ODI World Champions have already shown in this tournament they can win batting first, thanks to Jos Buttler’s skills. Set up for a cracking game.
