Asked to bat first, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 142 (20 overs).

In reply, South Africa finished with 146/6 (19.5 overs).

SouthAfrica win by 4 wickets

Rabada gets a top edge over the keeper for four to seal the seal. A stunning turnaround in Sharjah! Hasaranga’s hat-trick put #SriLanka in pole position but Miller had other ideas. He hits consecutive sixes in the final over to power #SouthAfrica to victory.

SA 142/6 after 19.4 overs: Scores are level! Kumara bangs it in and Miller gloves it for a single. SA need 1 off 2.

SA 141/6 after 19.3 overs: SIX! Miller with another monstrous six over mid-wicket! Wow! Kumara makes the same mistake and pitches it in the slot. SA need 2 off 3.

SA 135/6 after 19.2 overs: SIX! Kumara pitches it on a length and Miller goes bang! That went way over deep mid-wicket. SA need 8 off 4. Game on!

Lahiru Kumara to bowl the final over.

SA 128/6 after 19 overs: SIX! Chameera bowls it in the slot and Rabada sends it a long way over long-off. But the right-arm pacer does well to concede just four singles in the rest of the over. SA need 15 off 6.

SA 116/6 after 17.2 overs: OUT! Hasaranga gets a hat-trick! Pretorius finds the fielder at long-on and South Africa are in all sorts of trouble. What a superb spell this has been by Hasaranga! Rabada is the new batter. SA need 31 off 16.

SA 112/5 after 17.1 overs: OUT! Nissanka with a fantastic catch at deep mid-wicket and Hasaranga gets Bavuma (46 off 46). Big moment in the game. Advantage Sri Lanka! Pretorius is the new batter.

SA 112/4 after 17 overs: SIX! Bavuma goes big, finally. Chameera angles it in and the right-hander plays a superb pick-up shot for six. The timing on that was top notch. SA need 31 off 18.

SA 102/4 after 16 overs: Fine over from Theekshana, just six singles from it. Bavuma moves on to 37 off 41, he has hit one boundary. SA need 41 off 24.

SA 96/4 after 15 overs: OUT! Hasaranga with a crucial strike for Sri Lanka! He cleans up Markram (19 off 20) just as the Proteas were looking to up the ante. Miller is the new batter. SA need 47 off 30.

SA 88/3 after 14 overs: Top over from Kumara, just four singles from it. SA need 55 off 36, they need a couple of big overs.

SA 84/3 after 13 overs: Four! Theekshana drops one short and Bavuma pulls it in the gap. That will release some pressure from the skipper. SA need 59 off 42.

SA 74/3 after 12 overs: Skipper Shanaka brings himself into the attack and concedes seven runs in his first over. Bavuma moves on to 22 off 28. SA need 69 off 48.

SA 64/3 after 10 overs: Shot! Markram plays a stylish on-the-rise cover drive for four. SA needed that. Ten runs some from Karunaratne’s third over. SA need 81 off 60.

SA 49/3 after 8 overs: OUT! Rassie van der Dussen (16 off 11) is run-out! He set off for a single from the non-striker’s end when there wasn’t one and couldn’t get back in in time. Superb work from Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka as he gets a direct hit from cover. Aiden Markram is the new batter.

SA 44/2 after 7 overs: Hasaranga joins the attack and bowls a good over, just four singles come from it. SA need 99 off 78.

SA 40/2 after 6 overs: Sri Lanka miss another close run-out chance. They simply aren’t getting the direct hits. And the over also ends with four overthrows. That’s the end of the powerplay, South Africa need 103 off 84.

SA 32/2 after 5 overs: Some drama out in the middle. Kumara collects the ball in his follow through and as he often does, throws the ball hard at the batter. Van der Dussen takes evasive action and the ball hits his bat and rather optimistically, Sri Lanka appeal for obstructing the field. The umpires go up and the third umpire reckons there was nothing wrong in what the batter did. Him being inside the crease when the ball hit his bat also helped.

SA 26/2 after 3.4 overs: OUT! Chameera has two wickets in one over! South Africa have lost both their openers! This time de Kock (12 off 10) mistimes a pull and Chameera takes the catch. SA have van der Dussen and Bavuma at the crease now.

SA 25/1 after 3.2 overs: OUT! Chameera gets one to skid through and wrap Hendricks (11 off 12) on the pad, the umpire raises his finger and DRS goes Sri Lanka’s way.

SA 21/0 after 3 overs: Super shot from de Kock! The left-hander flicks it through mid-wicket for four with pure timing. Kumara concedes seven runs in his first over.

SA 14/0 after 2 overs: Theekshana bowls the first ball of the over on the pads and de Kock sweeps it over square-leg for four. Ten runs come from that over.

SA 4/0 after 1 over: Good start from Chameera, he bowled a no ball but managed to not concede a boundary.

5.19 pm: The target for SA is 143. De Kock and Hendricks are at the crease. Here we go!

End of innings

Sri Lanka all-out for 142 off the last ball of the innings. Lahiru Kumara run-out by Anrich Nortje at the end. Opener Pathum Nissanka’s 72 has helped his team post a competitive total in Sharjah.

SL 142/9 after 19.5 overs: OUT! Chameera attempts a slog and is clean bowled. Nortje strikes in the last over of the innings to get his second wicket. Kumara is the last batter.

SL 131/8 after 18.4 overs: OUT! Pretorius has two wickets in one over! And it’s the key wicket of Nissanka. The right-hander was going for broke but he gets caught in the deep this time. He departs for a superb 72 off 58. Theekshana is the new batter.

SL 131/7 after 18.2 overs: OUT! Even as Nissanka continues to fight at the other end, #SriLanka lose another wicket. This time Karunaratne (5 off 5) finds the fielder as Pretorius gets his second. Chameera is the new batter.

SL 129/6 after 18 overs: Huge over as Nissanka goes big! The right-hander decides to go after Rabada and picks up two fours and a six. Sri Lanka needed this push. They’ve set themselves up for a good total.

SL 110/6 after 16.4 overs: OUT! SL picked up two fours earlier in the over but Pretorius strikes back with Shanaka’s (11 off 12) wicket. Fine catch from Rabada in the deep. Karunaratne is the new batter.

SL 101/5 after 16 overs: Shanaka finally gets going. Nortje offers some width and the right-hander drive it over cover for four. Sri Lanka need a lot more of this.

SL 94/5 after 15 overs: Fifty for Nissanka! He gets there in 46 balls. The right-hander has played an impressive knock even as wickets kept falling at the other end. Skipper Shanaka, meanwhile, is batting on 2 off 7.

SL 91/5 after 13.4 overs: OUT! Hasaranga (4 off 5) finds the fielder at long-on and Shamsi has his third. The top-ranked bowler in T20I cricket wanted another over and he has delivered.

SL 89/4 after 13 overs: SIX! Maharaj tosses one up and Nissanka whacks it all the way. The right-hander has done well so far, Sri Lanka need him to up the ante and bat through.

SL 77/4 after 11.4 overs: OUT! Shamsi gets his second wicket as Fernando (3 off 5) hits one straight back to him. Sri Lanka continue to struggle to build a partnership. Hasaranga is the new batter.

SL 67/3 after 10 overs: Another fine over for Shamsi but SL need to be careful here. They need to keep wickets in hand going into the slog over.

SL 62/3 after 9.3 overs: Wicket! Shamsi strikes. Easy caught and bowled. Rajapakse gone without scoring. Brilliant bowling. The batters are reading him very well. Rajapaksa c and b Shamsi 0(3)

SL 61/2 after 8.5 overs: WICKET! And something did give. Six off the first ball, six off the third and a wicket off the fifth. Asalanka walking back after being caught short of his crease. Superb throw by Rabada did the trick. Asalanka run out (Rabada/de Kock) 21(14)

SL 46/1 after 8 overs: Shamsi into the attack – spin from both ends – and makes a very good start indeed. Just runs in the over. The innings is fast approaching ‘the something’s gotta give’ territory.

SL 44/1 after 7 overs: Maharaj into the attack and he keeps things tight. Just five singles from the over.

SL 39/1 after 6 overs: The Powerplay overs are done. Asalanka lifting SL a bit with two nice fours in the Nortje over. It doesn’t look like the easiest track to bat on for now.

SL 28/1 after 5 overs: SA have made a good start to the match. The bowlers, for most part have been on target, at the SL batters haven’t really managed to play shots. But Rabada got one wrong in the over and Nissanka helped himself to a four.

SL 20/1 after 3.5 overs: WICKET! Nortje into the attack and he strikes. Perera, the left-hander went for the big shot, but connected with air. Kusal Perera b Nortje 7(10)

SL 17/0 after 3 overs: Another fine over from Markram. Just three runs off it. SA also took a review. Markram thought he had Perera trapped LBW but the ball was clearly missing.

SL 14/0 after 2 overs: Rabada from the other end and he was on target right until the last ball of the over when he strayed onto the pads of Perera, who helped it past the fielder at short fine leg.

SL 5/0 after 1 over: Markram starts off with a superb first over. Didn’t get too much turn but only gave away singles. One over out of the way. Won’t be long before Nissanka starts hitting the big shots – he has been the man in form.

TOSS: South Africa have won the toss and opted to field first

02.50 pm: Here’s what Keshav Maharaj had to say ahead of this vital clash:

“I think they’re a side in form at the moment. You’ve seen they’ve played some really good cricket,” said Maharaj.

“The batters are scoring runs. The bowlers, they have some really good spinners and fast bowlers at the moment who are bowling really quickly, as well.

“We’re going to have to do our homework and not take any situation for granted. This is a World Cup and teams find a way of stepping up, so hopefully we’ve done our homework and we’ve trained accordingly to combat the Sri Lankan team tomorrow.”

“It looks like quite a good surface, just maybe a bit low from what we’ve seen in the game between the West Indies and Bangladesh.

“Having said that, we are not sure if we are on a fresh wicket or used wicket come tomorrow.

“I think the boys must just make sure that we execute our lines and lengths and assess conditions very quickly and adapt accordingly.”
