The police, on Sunday, registered a first information report in connection with a robbery at the home of Congress leader P Chidambaram in Nungambakkam, Chennai. Though the theft is believed to have taken place earlier, it was discovered only on Sunday, reports said. Cash and jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh is missing.
A police official told PTI that they suspect some employees of Chidambaram’s were behind the theft. Chidambaram’s wife Nalini Chidambaram discovered the items missing from a wardrobe on Sunday morning after she returned from Ooty, according to The Times of India.
P Chidambaram and his family are currently embroiled in a money laundering case in connection with which the Supreme Court had granted Chidambaram protection from arrest. The former finance minister and his son Karti Chidambaram have denied any wrongdoing in the case.
