Islamic State group chief Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi’s son has been killed in Syria while fighting forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, Al Jazeera reported on Wednesday citing the outfit’s social media accounts. The photos showed a young boy carrying a rifle, and identified him as Hudayfah al-Badri. The statement on the Islamic State’ group’s social media accounts did not reveal when al-Badri was killed.
“Hudayfah al-Badri ... the son of the Caliph ... was killed in an operation against the Nusayriyyah and the Russians at the thermal power station in Homs,” the statement said, according to Reuters.
In February, al-Baghdadi was reportedly severely injured in an airstrike and, and was treated at a medical facility in northeastern Syria. A senior official had said the Islamic State group leader has “injuries, diabetes and fractures to the body and legs that prevent him from walking without assistance”.
In 2017, Russia claimed to have killed the terrorist group’s elusive leader in an airstrike on a meeting of senior Islamic State group commanders near the Syrian city of Raqqa on May 28. The United States, however, had said they could not confirm Baghdadi’s death, and US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis had said he believed al-Baghdadi was still alive.
