The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation on Wednesday inaugurated a live streaming facility that allows passengers to see how their meals are prepared and packaged at its main kitchens. Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had made the suggestion at a review meeting in June, PTI reported.
“This step will further enhance transparency and public confidence in the food preparation and packaging process across the Indian Railways network,” the IRCTC said on Twitter. “The live streaming can be accessed by anyone on IRCTC’s website under the gallery link.”
Earlier in the day, Railway Board Chairperson Ashwani Lohani inspected food preparation at IRCTC’s central kitchen in Noida. The kitchen prepares 10,000 meals a day for 17 Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains. Lohani claimed that the existence of a dedicated food-testing laboratory is a “unique feature” of IRCTC’s catering, PTI reported.
