The Jharkhand Police on Tuesday arrested a man reportedly suffering from a mental illness after he allegedly beheaded a teacher and ran away with her head. The incident took place in Seraikela-Kharswan district, PTI reported.
The 26-year-old accused allegedly dragged the woman, who taught at a government primary school, to his home when mid-day meals were being served at the school, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Seraikela Avinash Kumar. He decapitated her with a sword and ran into a nearby jungle with her head to flee from the police and a mob. Four policemen were injured when they tried to save him from the mob, added Kumar.
Two hours later, the accused was found hiding in the bushes. He was carrying two swords. The police said they thought of shooting at him but could not do so as many people were present. The accused has been admitted to a hospital in Jamshedpur.
