Gujarat Congress MLA Kunvarji Bavaliya resigned from the party on Tuesday. Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi said that he has received Bavaliya’s resignation.
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel claimed that Bavaliya had been unhappy with the Congress ever since his junior, Paresh Dhanani, was made leader of the Opposition, The Times of India reported. He said that Bavaliya and his supporters will now join the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Patel said Bavaliya will be made a minister in the Vijay Rupani government.
Bavaliya, legislator from Jasdan constituency, had expressed displeasure at being “ignored” by the Gujarat Congress, PTI reported. On June 25, two days after meeting Congress President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi, Bavaliya told his supporters that he would “think differently now”.
“We all should think about what can be done for the development of this constituency,” Bavalia told reporters later. “No development work has been done in Jasdan despite my best efforts because I belong to the opposition party.”
