Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has been admitted to the critical care unit of a private hospital in Kolkata with a brain clot, The Hindu reported on Friday. He is said to be in a stable condition.
Chatterjee was admitted to the Bell Vue clinic on Monday after he suffered speech and motion impediments. A computed tomography scan scheduled for Thursday – to monitor the size of the clot – was postponed as Chatterjee is suffering from ailments in his lungs, liver and urinary tract.
West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay, Opposition leader Abdul Mannan, Left Front chairperson Biman Basu and Left leaders Sujan Chakroborty visited the former speaker at the clinic on Thursday, Ananda Bazar Patrika reported. Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Wednesday wished Chatterjee a speedy recovery.
