The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s non-executive staff on Wednesday threatened to go on strike from June 30 if their demands of salary revision and promotion are not fulfilled, PTI reported.
Over 9,000 non-executive staff, including train operators, maintenance workers and station controllers, have been protesting since June 19 at the Yamuna Bank and Shahdara metro stations.
“We want our union to be recognised by the DMRC,” the corporation’s staff council secretary, Ravi Bhardwaj, told The Hindu. “Further, we want implementation of agreements pertaining to pay revision. This should be done immediately after a discussion with the representatives and not arbitrarily.”
Bhardwaj said their other demands include implementation of Industrial Dearness Allowance as per the third pay revision scale. He said there was no consistency in the upgradation of scales since 2017 and employees were stuck in one grade for over 10 years. The council has sent the demands to Delhi Metro authorities and the Union Urban Affairs Ministry.
“It cannot be justified,” Bhardwaj said. “There would be no maintenance of trains and trains will not be rolled out of depots. Station controllers would ensure that entry to metro stations is also closed for public.”
A senior DMRC official told PTI that the Delhi Metro was facing “some HR issues” which would be resolved soon.
