The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday said senior party leader Naveen Jaihind will be its chief ministerial candidate in Haryana Assembly elections due in 2019. Jaihind is the party’s state unit president.

“In Naveen ji, we have more than a capable candidate, he is a youth, well-educated,” party’s Haryana media in-charge Sudhir Yadav told reporters. “He has been into student politics for more than 10 years.”

Yadav also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Haryana and accused Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar of making false promises to the people of Gurugram. “One word that perfectly describes the state of affairs in Haryana is ‘sorry’,” Yadav said, according to The Tribune. “People chose the BJP expecting a breather from corrupt Congress government but in Khattar’s regime a city like Gurugram, which has world-class potential and generates revenues in hundreds of crores, continues to struggle for the want of basic infrastructure needs.”
