Saurabh Chaudhary bagged the gold in 10m air pistol with a junior world record score to add to India’s medal tally at the ongoing ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, on Tuesday.

The 15-year-old shot a superb 243.7 in the final to clinch the top spot well ahead of silver medallist Lim Hojin from Korea who scored 239.6 in the finals. Wang Zhehao from China finished the podium with 218.7 points.

The junior world record before this was 242.5 by Chinese shooter Wang Zhehao at the first ISSF Junior Wold Cup of the year in Sydney.

The other Indian in the final, Anmol Jain, fell short of the podium, finishing fourth with 199.6.

Earlier in the qualification, Chaudhary had finished third with a score of 583, just ahead of Jain at 580.

In the women’s 25m pistol final, both Indians in the fray couldn’t get on to the podium. Manu Bhaker was fifth with 19 hits and Devanshi Rana was eighth with five.

In December last year, Chaudhary qualified for the Youth Olympics Games with a gold medal and a junior world record at Asia Youth Olympics Games qualification. He had shot 243.1 in the final then.

On Monday, India had completed the 10m air rifle sweep with Hriday Hazarika and Elavenil Valarivan winning gold.
