Advait Page and Swadesh Mondal, on Monday, bettered the national records to clinch gold medals at the 35th Sub-Junior and 45th Junior National Aquatics Championships in Pune.

Madhya Pradesh swimmer Advait bettered the existing national record in 800m boys’ (group I) freestyle. He finished the race in 08:16.27s ahead of Delhi’s Sanskar Tokas (08:36.58) and Sanjay CJ of Karnataka (08:40.30). Advait, four days ago in Singapore, bettered the 1500m national record by nearly 20 seconds.

Gujarat’s Aryan Nehra broke the existing national record in the 800m freestyle boys (group II) by 9 seconds to win gold with a time of 08:36.16. Hriday Santosh of Chattisgarh and Kapil Shetty of Karnataka finished second and third.

In the girls’(group II) 100m breaststroke, Rachana S Rao broke the national record with a time 01:16.44s. Vedika Amin of SFI won silver with a timing of 01:16.65 while Kareena Shankta of SFI won bronze after taking 01:17.37s to finish the race.

West Bengal’s Swadesh Mondal won his third goal of the championships after winning the 200m boys’ (group II) breaststroke race with a record time of 02:25.27s. He beat his own record set in the morning by three seconds. Karnataka’s Kalp Bohra (02:37.30s) and Adith Smaran Olety (02:37.64) finished second and third.

On the first day of the championships, Karnataka’s Srihari Natraj bettered the national record in 100m breaststroke to clinch the gold medal

Srihari finished the race in 56.41 seconds, bettering his previous record of 57.33s, beating Swimming Federation of India’s (SFI) Neel Roy (58.70s) and Goa’s Xavier Michael D’Souza (59.04s).

He also helped Karnataka beat Tamil Nadu and SFI to win the boys’ 4x100m freestyle.

Mondal broke two national records – in 50m breaststroke and 400m individual medley – to clinch two golds on the first day of the championships.

Swadesh won the 400m individual medley in 4:40.94s, beating Gujarat’s Aryana Nehra (4:44.00s) and Goa’s Shoan Ganguly (4:45.13s).

In the 50m breaststroke, which he completed in 31.33 seconds to break Likith SP’s previous record (31.41s), he finished ahead of Assam’s Bikram Changmai and Karnataka’s Harsha R.
