Fourteen women and a child were killed and seven people were injured when a tractor fell into a canal in Telangana’s Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district on Sunday, PTI reported.
The incident occurred at 10 am after the tractor driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid a collision with a two-wheeler, and fell into the Musi river canal near Laxmapuram village, Assistant Commissioner of Police S Ramesh told the news agency.
The police are looking for the driver, who is absconding, ANI reported.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said he had directed officials to ensure that the injured receive proper medical care, The Hindu reported.
Energy Minister G Jagadishwar Reddy spoke to the collectors of Nalgonda and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri districts over phone and asked them to supervise the relief efforts.
