The 11-km-long fully elevated Mundka-Bahadurgarh corridor of the Delhi Metro’s Green Line was opened on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the stretch from his office via teleconferencing while Union Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Puri and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar attended the function in Bahadurgarh.

Modi said his government’s priority was to build convenient, comfortable and affordable urban transport systems. “Our government brought out a policy relating to metros,” said the prime minister, according to PTI. “This is because we felt aspects relating to metro systems need greater coherence and work as per a basic set of standards.” He added that Bahadurgarh was witnessing tremendous economic growth. “The Metro will bring convenience to this part, which is considered the gateway to Haryana ... We have seen how the Metro in Delhi has positively impacted the lives of citizens.”

The Mundka-Bahadurgarh stretch, with seven stations, is an extension of the existing Green Line from Inderlok to Mundka. While four of the new stations – Mundka Industrial Area, Ghevra, Tikri Kalan and Tikri Border – are in Delhi, the three stations of Modern Industrial Estate, Bus Stand and City Park will fall under Haryana’s jurisdiction. This is the third metro line to Haryana.

“This entirely elevated section will not only connect the capital city with Bahadurgarh, but also provide connectivity to many suburban areas of Mundka, Ghevra and Tikri Kalan,” the metro authorities had said, according to NDTV.

A total of 20 trains will be put into service, a Metro spokesperson told The Times of India. “The total running time between Inderlok/Kirti Nagar and City Park [Bahadurgarh] will be around 50 minutes.” the spokesperson added.
