Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal, coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and manager Asanka Gurusinha have admitted to breaching the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) code of conduct after being pulled up for delaying play amid the ball-tampering controversy during the second Test against West Indies in St Lucia.

The visiting players had refused to take the field on the third day after Chandimal was accused of altering the condition of the ball on day two.

The game had eventually resumed after considerable delay.

The ICC charged the trio with breaking Article 2.3.1 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game.”

“This action was alleged to amount to a serious breach of the Laws of Cricket and to be contrary to the spirit of the game,” ICC had said in a statement.

Chandimal has since been found guilty of ball-tampering and a one-match suspension. The Sri Lanka captain has appealed the punishment, the hearing of which will be held on Friday.
