Hindi film actress Mallika Sherawat will produce and headline the Indian adaptation of the American television series The Good Wife, The Times of India reported.
The CBS network show (2009-2016) is about a stay-at-home mother Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) who goes back to being an attorney after her husband (Chris Noth) is imprisoned in a sex and corruption scandal. The acclaimed political thriller has won five Emmy awards.
“I’m excited about bringing The Good Wife to India,” Sherawat told Times of India. “I love the series, as it features a fierce and beautifully-written female character with enough contradiction, emotional range, and surprise. The show’s brilliant story-line and pioneering female role made me want to adapt it for the Indian audience, which is more prepared today to consume such content.”
Sherawat, whose filmography includes Murder (2004), The Myth (2005) and Hiss (2010), was last seen in Chinese film Time Raiders (2016).
