Canadian director Xavier Dolan has been added to the cast of the It sequel, Deadline reported. It: Chapter Two will see the return of director Andy Muschietti, while Bill Skarsgard is back as Pennywise, the clown who terrorises a bunch of children.

Based on the Stephen King novel from 1986, It was adapted as a 1990 mini-series and as a hugely successful movie in 2017. The sequel is set 27 years after the events in the first film, and features the terrorised children as grown-ups. James McAvoy plays Bill, Jessica Chastain is Beverly, Bill Hader is Richie, James Ransone is Eddie, Andy Bean is Stanley, Isaiah Mustafa is Mike and Jay Ryan is Ben. Xavier Dolan will play Adrian Mellon. “In the Stephen King novel, Mellon was a gay man living in Derry who was attacked by bullies,” Deadline reported. Will Beinbrink will play “Tom Rogan who was Beverly’s abusive lover in the book and the 1990s miniseries”.

Dolan, the director of I Killed My Mother (2009), Laurence Always (2012), Tom at the Farm (2013), Mommy (2014), and the upcoming The Death and Life of John F Donovan, has acted in television films, shorts, some of his own titles, and outside productions.

Filming on the It sequel will begin in July. The movie will be released by Warner Bros on September 6, 2019. “Last year’s IT grossed $327.5 domestically and $700 million worldwide,” Deadline noted.
