Additional Chief Secretary (Home) in Chhattisgarh BVR Subrahmanyam was on Wednesday appointed the chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, PTI reported. He will replace BB Vyas, who has been appointed advisor to Governor NN Vohra. Former Indian Police Service officer Vijay Kumar will be another adviser to the governor.
Earlier on Wednesday, governor’s rule was imposed in the state, a day after the Bharatiya Janata Party pulled out of the government and ended its alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the appointment of Subrahmanyam, a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre at the disposal of the Jammu and Kashmir government, an official communique said.
Subrahmanyam, considered to be an expert in internal security matters, has served as a private secretary to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh between 2004 and 2008. He then worked with the World Bank during June 2008 and September 2011, before joining the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government again in March 2012.
Meanwhile, the Union Personnel Ministry amended the service rules to give Vyas an extension since he is over 60 years old. In May, Vyas was given a one-year extension in service as the chief secretary of the state.
