ISSF Junior World Cup gold medalist Elavenil Valarivan shot a stunning 253.0 in the final, which is higher than the current world record of 252.4, to clinch the first place in the both 10m air rifle senior and junior category at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range.

While the Gun for Glory shooter scored better than Ruozhu Zhao’s world record, it won’t be counted as one because ISSF, the world governing body for the sport, only considers tournaments held at a world or continental level.

Commonwealth Games medallist Mehuli Ghosh finished second with 251.7 while Manini Kaushik from Rajasthan bagged the bronze with 230.9 in the senior category.

Elavenil shined in the Junior category as well with a score of 252.3 to win her second gold. West Bengal’s Ghosh carried on her medal rush as she claimed the silver with 251.1 whereas Shreya Agarwal from Madhya Pradesh claimed a spot on the podium with a score of 229.7.

The selection trail 5 was held simultaneously with the KSS Memorial Shooting Championship which saw Elavenil top the charts with a qualification score of 632.2 while Ghosh scored 629.7 and Kaushik took the third spot with 629.1. These points will be considered while the Asian Games and World Championships selections take place.
