At least 15 people were killed and 45 others wounded in a suicide bombing outside the Nangarhar provincial governor’s office in Afghanistan’s Jalalabad city, TOLO News reported. The blast reportedly took place close to the Indian consulate.

According to an eye witness, a suicide bomber detonated the explosives among the security forces and civilians who had gathered near the governor’s office to celebrate Eid, Khaama Press News Agency reported.

Provincial governor’s spokesperson Ataullah Khogyani confirmed the incident.

The attack comes a day after the Afghanistan government extended its unilateral ceasefire with the Taliban. The ceasefire was scheduled to end on June 20.

Earlier on Saturday, 25 people were killed in an explosion at a gathering of Afghan security forces, civilians and Taliban in Nangarhar province. The group was celebrating an unprecedented ceasefire between the security forces and the militants. Both the Taliban and the Afghan government had announced a ceasefire to allow their fighters to celebrate Eid.
