In the short film Kashmir, a man makes peace with his past as he attempts to cope with the loss of his father. Written and directed by Sugandha Garg, Kashmir attempts to separate the many threads that make up a person’s identity, from birthplace and topography, to memories and history.

A middle-aged man (Manav Kaul) finds himself in a brightly lit room with the ghost of his recently deceased father (Avijit Dutt). As his father sits across a table from him, the duo has an emotionally fraught conversation about loss, grief, and their ancestral home in Kashmir, which is now decrepit. Although the home is gone and his ties to Kashmir are now tenuous, the man finally accepts and befriends his childhood memories.

Kashmir was released on the YouTube channel Terribly Tiny Tales ahead of Father’s Day on Sunday.
