Clashes broke out between two groups in Madhya Pradesh’s Shajapur town on Saturday after a few people allegedly hurled stones at a procession celebrating Maharana Pratap Jayanti, reported PTI. Five bikes, an autorickshaw and an electronic goods store were reportedly set on fire.
The police baton-charged the rioters and lobbed tear gas shells to control the situation, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Padam Singh Baghel told PTI.
The district administration imposed Section 144, which prohibits the assembly of more than four people, following the incident.
Superintendent of Police Shailendra Chouhan told ANI that clashes broke out between two groups in the town’s Nayi Sadak area. “Few vehicles were set ablaze,” he said. “No casualties have been reported. [The] situation is under control now. Further investigation is underway.”
