National Film Award-winning actress Tannishtha Chatterjee will make her directorial debut with a film starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The movie will be produced by Rising Star Entertainment, Eros International, Pankaj Razdaz, and Ravi Walia. Production will begin later this year.
According to Mumbai Mirror, the film will be based on an event that Chatterjee experienced. “Nawaz and I have the most vibrant creative discussions and through so many years of conversations, we thought it is almost an organic culmination that we now tell a story that we would ourselves like to watch,” Tannishtha told the publication. “...I experienced a very strange incident during one of my travels to a film festival and immediately sounded him out. Nawaz was equally intrigued, and we decided to bring the experience to the screen.”
Siddiqui and Chatterjee have worked together on Garth Davis’s Lion (2016), Mangesh Hadawale’s Dekh Indian Circus (2011) and Amit Kumar’s Monsoon Shootout (2017). Both won the National Film Award – Special Mention for Dekh Indian Circus.
Chatterjee’s other credits include Brick Lane (2007), Angry Indian Goddesses (2015), and Parched (2015).
Siddiqui’s upcoming films include Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray’s biopic Thackeray. He played the lead role in Nandita Das’s Manto, a biographical film on Indian-Pakistani writer Saadat Hasan Manto, which was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
