Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who was undergoing medical treatment in the United States, arrived in Mumbai on Thursday, PTI reported. He is expected to return to Goa on Friday.
The 62-year-old former defence minister was being treated for a pancreatic ailment in New York for the past three months. “Parrikar will fly from the US to Mumbai and from Mumbai to Goa on Thursday,” an unidentified senior official at the Chief Minister’s Office told PTI. “He is arriving in Panaji [on Friday].”
Parrikar was admitted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital on February 16 with abdominal pain and food poisoning. He was taken to Lilavati Hospital soon after, and was discharged on February 22. He left for the US in March.
A minister in Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government said Parrikar has called for a meeting with Cabinet ministers on Friday, reported NDTV. “The venue for the meeting has not been confirmed yet,” the minister said. Parrikar is likely decide the dates for the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Legislative Assembly.
Before leaving for the US, Parrikar had formed a cabinet advisory committee to run the state in his absence. The committee comprised Sudin Dhavalikar (Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party), Francis D’Souza (BJP) and Vijai Sardesai (Goa Forward Party). The tenure of the committee will end on June 30, reported PTI.
