Steve Trevor, the American intelligence officer who supposedly blew up in a plane at the end of the superhero adventure Wonder Woman (2017), is back in the sequel. Director Patty Jenkins tweeted out a photo of Trevor, played by Chris Pine, from the sets of the new movie, which will be released on November 1, 2019.
Wonder Woman 1984 sees the return of Gal Gadot as the superheroine with the magic lasso and deadly bracelets. The new movie is set, as the title suggests, in the 1980s, and features Kristen Wiig as The Cheetah, Wonder Woman’s arch-enemy. The cast includes Pedro Pascal. The characters were originally created for DC Comics by William Moulton Marston.
“This is the eighth installment in the DC Universe franchise, and the fourth movie featuring Gadot’s Wonder Woman,” Variety noted. “’Wonder Woman’ was a box office sensation last summer, earning $821.8 million worldwide including $412.5 million in North America. The universally acclaimed film became a massive hit for Warner Bros., setting a number of records at the box office. It’s now the highest grossing film with a female director, as well as the 22nd-highest grossing movie of all time in North America and the second-biggest movie of 2017 after ‘Beauty and the Beast.’”
