The trailers for Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju show Ranbir Kapoor nailing Sanjay Dutt’s persona and replicating an array of looks from various stages of the actor’s life. Another glimpse of Kapoor’s versatility is offered in the song Main Badhiya Tu Bhi Badhiya, released on Sunday. This is the first song to be released from the biopic.
In Main Badhiya Tu Bhi Badhiya, Kapoor proclaims that his father (Sunil Dutt, played by Paresh Rawal) has questioned his lip syncing abilities. He goes on to prove his father wrong by matching lip movements and facial expressions with not just a male singer but also a female one, playing both roles in a duet. The song also gives him ample room to show off his dancing skills. Another gender-bender ensues when Sonam Kapoor, who plays Dutt’s former girlfriend, sings along to the male vocals.
The lyrics centre on a conversation between a woman and her lover. While she urges him to marry her, he proclaims that he is a free spirit.
The music is by composer duo Rohan-Rohan, with lyrics by Puneet Sharma. Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan provide the vocals.
Sanju, produced by Vinod Chopra Films, Rajkumar Hirani Films and Fox Star Studios, will be released on June 29. The film traces the actor’s tumultuous life, including his many romances, his drug addiction and his incarceration for the possession of illegal arms in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
The ensemble cast includes Vicky Kaushal as Dutt’s friend, Manisha Koirala as the actor’s mother Nargis, Paresh Rawal as his father, and Dia Mirza as wife Manyata Dutt. Anushka Sharma plays a journalist.
