At least 15 people were injured after an explosion at an Indian restaurant in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga on Thursday, Global News reported. Three people are in critical condition. They are being treated at the Toronto Trauma Centre.

An improvised explosive device was used to carry out the explosion at Bombay Bhel restaurant around 10.30 pm (Friday 8 am Indian Standard Time), CBC Canada quoted the police as saying.

The police tweeted the photos of two men who reportedly fled the area immediately after the incident. They were wearing hoodies and had their faces covered. The plaza where the explosion took place has been sealed off, the police added.

Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj tweeted on Friday evening that 12 of those injured had been discharged. Three other persons, who were critically injured, are now in a stable condition, she said. Swaraj added that the Canadian Police had said that there is no evidence to regard the incident “as a terrorist attack or a hate crime”.

Earlier, Swaraj had said she was in touch with Dinesh Bhatia, the Indian consul general in Toronto, and Indian High Commissioner Vikas Swarup. People can reach out to the consulate at +1-647-668-4108, she added.

Swarup said that Bhatia had visited the trauma centre where three Indian-Canadians who were wounded in the blast were admitted, and said they are in a stable condition. However, it is not known if any Indian-Canadians were among those critically injured.
