Aamir Khan is co-producing Mogul, the Gulshan Kumar biopic, along with leading music label T-Series. Khan made the announcement at an event in Mumbai on May 23.
Akshay Kumar was supposed to play the music company magnate in Mogul, to be directed by Subhash Kapoor of Jolly LLB fame. But due to “creative differences” with the makers, Akshay Kumar stepped out of the project, and T-Series honcho Bhushan Kumar said that he would opt for a “bigger” actor than Akshay Kumar. Khan, however, confirmed that he would not be acting in the biopic.
Gulshan Kumar founded the T-Series music label and took it to great heights in the 1990s, banking on hit Hindi film soundtracks, devotional albums, and recreations of old Hindi film songs with new singers. He was shot dead in August 1997 for allegedly refusing to pay protection money to Dawood Ibrahim’s gang.
