Filmmaker Indra Kumar will direct the third installment of the Hera Pheri franchise, and Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty will reprise their roles, Mumbai Mirror reported. The project is tentatively titled Hera Pheri 3.
The first film, Hera Pheri (2000), was written by Neeraj Vora, who adapted it from the 1989 Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking. Priyadarshan directed the film and the caper went on to become a cult classic. Kumar, Shetty and Rawal played Raju, Ghanshyam and Baburao Ganpatrao Apte respectively. As housemates, the trio found themselves in a soup involving a gangster, a kidnapping, and mistaken identities.
Vora directed the 2006 sequel. He was reportedly working on a follow-up before he became comatose in 2016 and passed away the next year.
