Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly killing a 16-year-old domestic worker purportedly because she had asked for her salary. A statement issued by the police said the accused, identified as Manjeet Karketa, had lured Soni Kumari from Malgo village in Jharkhand by promising to give her a job.
On May 4, the police received a call about a chopped body lying in a bag in Paschim Vihar’s Mianwali Nagar. The police received a tip-off that one of the tenants in the neighbourhood where the body was found was missing since the murder. A raid was conducted at the accused’s village in Gumla.
Based on the information received, the police team also laid a trap to arrest the accused at his rented accommodation in Nangloi. Karketa used to allegedly collect her salary and had refused to hand it over to Kumari for over a year. She had demanded that he give her her salary and allow her to return home.
During an interrogation, the 30-year-old accused said his accomplices Sahu and Gauri used to help him lure girls from Jharkhand with the promise of providing them employment in Delhi. “They used to bring these girls to Delhi and get them employed as maids,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police RS Sagar.
