At least 19 people were killed after a truck carrying cement bags overturned on the Bhavnagar-Ahmedabad highway near Bavalyali village in Gujarat on Saturday morning, ANI reported. Seven people were injured in the accident.
An unidentified police official told NDTV that the driver lost control of the vehicle while taking a turn on the highway. The truck was coming from Pipavav Port in Bhavnagar, the police official said.
“Nineteen people, including 12 women, three children and four men were killed when the truck overturned,” Ahmedabad Superintendent of Police RV Asari told AFP. He added that the driver fled after the accident.
Local police and district administration officials have reached the accident site, and rescue operations are on. The injured are being taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, reports said.
