India’s campaign at the prestigious British Open squash tournament came to an early end on Wednesday as Saurav Ghosal lost in straight games to Simon Rosner from Germany.
Coming on the back of a titanic opening-round clash, Ghosal was ousted by the world No 6 from Germany 11-6, 11-7, 11-3 in a match that lasted 31 minutes.
India’s top-ranked squash player, Ghosal, had made a spirited comeback to beat Scotsman Greg Lobban in the opening round. The Indian had won the opening game before Lobbon outplayed the world no 13 to move into the lead. The Indian veteran mounted a resounding comeback to win 11-9, 8-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-3 in the marathon 71-minute contest.
Earlier, it was curtains for Joshna Chinappa in the opening round of the main draw. Chinappa was stunned by Egyptian qualifier Yathreb Adel 7-11, 3-11, 10-12 in a match that lasted just 27 minutes.
