A high school in Miami, USA took this year’s prom theme, Welcome to the Jungle, a little too far, to the extent that it actually brought a tiger to the party.
Christopher Columbus High School, in Miami, Florida held its prom last Friday. By the weekend, videos and images on social media showed a caged tiger at the event. Mari-Cris Castellanos, whose brother attends the school, posted these videos on Facebook along with a caption that read, “It is not the student fault to be so naive BUT it’s the CCHS STAFF who arranged this event, there for they are responsible for this tigers misery.” According to NBC News, the school also brought in a lemur, a parrot and a fox.
Not surprisingly, the school is now facing a backlash from angry animal activists, and organisations including PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The principal of the school, David Pugh, released a statement saying, “We recognise this decision has offended some and for that we apologise”.
