The counting of votes for the Assembly elections in Karnataka began at 8 am on Tuesday. Over 72% of the electorate had turned out to vote in elections for 222 of the state’s 224 constituencies on Saturday. Elections for the Rajarajeshwari constituency in Bengaluru will take place on May 28, while polling for the Jayanagar seat will be held later due to the death of BJP candidate BN Vijay Kumar on May 4.
Exit polls had predicted a hung Assembly. By Tuesday afternoon, the BJP, though it had emerged as the single largest party, failed to secure a majority.
